about us

We are a large group of organisations, trans young people, trans and cisgender researchers and clinicians across Australia working to improve health outcomes and uphold human rights for trans young people and children.

We currently work across four areas using our ways of working 📝

  • Our work covers four areas:

    1. harmonising (bringing together) data (learn more)

    2. understanding longitudinal outcomes (learn more)

    3. exploring novel, non-medical interventions (learn more)

    4. comparing models of care (learn more)

Each area is led by different researchers. Select learn more above to explore each area.

  • Our program is governed by:

    • a leadership group

    • a Youth Advisory Group (YAC)

    • standard ethics procedures

Read about our groups and commitments below.

We are committed to the growth and leadership of trans people in our work. This is reflected in x, x and x.

  • We worked with our Youth Advisory Group to create a set of key principles or ways of working.

    • welcoming trans people of all lived experience

    • minimising harm

    • celebrating unique protective factors in trans communities (such as trans/queer joy, resistance, support of each other)

    • involving young people in many ways with choice and dignity of risk (what does this mean?)

    • being transparent about processes, decisions and risks

    • understanding gender euphoria and affirmation as more than alleviating dysphoria

    • seeing intersections in identities and challenging pathologisation (especialy of neurodivergent trans folks)

    • staying curious with each other

    • having colleagues and institutions stand with young people

    • building in intergenerational leaning and support from trans adults

  • We are funded by the Australian Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the many lands upon which we are located. We pay our respect to Elders past and present.

  • We use trans inclusively to refer to all gender diverse people, including those who are non-binary, agender, sistergirls, brotherboys, transgender, genderfluid and other terms people identify with.

By young people, we mean anyone aged x - x.
